Increase in fees for Registered EU Design renewals as of May 1, 2025, pursuant to the new EU Design Regulation
May 1, 2025 : increase in renewal fees
As of May 1, 2025, there will be a significant increase in the renewal fees payable in respect of EU registered designs due to the entering into force of the new EU Design Regulation 2024/2822.
It should be noted that substantial cost savings may be possible by proceeding with the early renewal of designs that are due to expire between May 1, and October 31, 2025.
The current fee structure will continue to apply for any renewal requests filed with the EUIPO before May 1, 2025, even if the design is only due for renewal after this date (although early renewals can only be filed during the 6-month period immediately preceding the renewal date). Any renewal requests filed from May 1, 2025 onwards, however, will be subject to the new fee structure set forth below.
Renewal period | Current fee, per design (before May 1, 2025) | New fee,
per design (as of May 1, 2025) |
---|---|---|
1st renewal (6th – 10th year) | 90 euros | 150 euros |
2e renewal (11th – 15th year) | 120 euros | 250 euros |
3e renewal (16th – 20th year) | 150 euros | 400 euros |
4e renewal (21st – 25th year) | 180 euros | 700 euros |
EU design owners with design registrations expiring before October 31, 2025 may wish to consider renewing such registrations prior to May 1, 2025, so as to benefit from the lower renewal fees.
Date de renouvellement
The date by which EU designs may be renewed will also change as of May 1, 2025 :
• for designs expiring before May 1, 2025, the renewal deadline is the last day of the month in which the renewal falls due ;
• for designs expiring as of May 1, 2025, the renewal deadline is the 5-year anniversary of the filing date.
