February 13, 2015 - Broadening of the geographical scope of International registered design

After accession of South Korea to the International Registration System of Industrial Designs on April 1st, 2014, it is now the turn of Japan and the US to join the system, bringing membership to 64 contracting States.

As of May 13, 2015, it is therefore possible for designers of Japan and the US to file an International design application and to designate for example: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Switzerland as well as the European Union.

By designating the European Union in an International design application, it is therefore possible to obtain a Registered Community Design (RCD) granted by the OHIM in Alicante (Spain).
